Inspiring people to live healthier and happier lives

I am a scoliosis and spinal fusion patient, advocate, and teacher.  I teach Pilates, yoga, and strength training in the Chicago metropolitan area and nationwide for people with scoliosis, spinal fusions, and other back care concerns.  I am passionate about inspiring people to live healthier and happier lives!

At the age of eleven, my ballet teacher noticed an asymmetry in my shoulders.  Soon after a doctor diagnosed me with scoliosis and within a year I had spinal fusion surgery.  Bone from my right iliac crest fused my thoracic vertebrae (T3-T10) secured by a Harington rod.

I danced professionally in high school and then attended the University of Notre Dame where I studied accounting. I became a Certified Public Accountant and then quickly returned to dancing professionally. Although these experiences differed significantly, my back was sensitive regardless of whether I sat all day or danced all day.  I frequently experienced a certain level of discomfort and pain.

I began practicing yoga to balance my body from the many hours of dancing. I discovered that yoga combined with other methods of cross training allowed me to manage and all together avoid pain.

Eventually, I found my way into a yoga for scoliosis class and then a yoga for spinal fusions class in New York City.  These classes brought to light an even deeper understanding of my body as well as the effects of scoliosis and my spinal fusion.

As a passionate and lifelong learner, I thoroughly enjoy taking coursework and continuing my education in anatomy and biomechanics, Pilates, yoga, and strength training. I am trained on all the apparatus through Polestar Pilates.  My other certifications include the following:

I studied with and assisted yoga classes for Elise Miller Browning, Allison West, and Deborah Wolk. I am proud to be a member, teacher and founding officer of the highly esteemed Samamkaya Back Care & Scoliosis Collective in New York City.
